The Thanksgiving Parfait

Keep your pumpkin pie, forget about the cheesecake, and throw away the apple pie.  I would like to introduce to you, a real Thanksgiving dessert, Serious Meat's Thanksgiving Parfait.  This beauty was created by Serious Meat a few years back, and has been a standard at Thanksgiving ever since.  It started when Bo became hungry after the 3rd quarter of the 4 o'clock football game.  Dessert wasn't out yet, and the left overs were still on the counter waiting to be put away.  As quiet as a 6'4" man beast can be, Bo Nuts went into the kitchen with two things: an idea and a solo cup.  3 minutes later he came back with the parfait which made the heads turn, some in disgust, but most were in amazement.

There is no standard parfait, it is tweeked every year depending on what is available after dinner.  The 2009 parfait was made in a pint glass to show off the layers.  It started with a base layer of sausage stuffing, gravy, corn casserole, gravy, turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, and topped with some more turkey and little gravy for good measure.  The Parfait has a slight resemblance to a Starbucks Caramel Frappacino, but Serious Meat insists tastes much better.

Look at all of those layers!

Good thing the iPhone can tie your shoes for you, but the camera doesn't have a flash.  BG and his team enjoyed a nice dinner at Cheese Cake Factory last night in Chicago.  I mean there is nothing wrong with 3 dudes going to dinner at Cheese Cake Factory, right?  Chicago isn't known for deep dish pizza, hot dogs, italian beef sandwiches or antyhing like that, but for the Cheese Cake Factory.

"So the Gexpro audit team is in Chicago this week minus Pepin and its BG, rob aka Brigham young, and a newcomer to the blog John Stofka who has yet to earn a nickname
Dinner started out with Brigham ordering a diablo patron drink even though he is a Mormon.....very fruity if u ask me
Dinner was chipotle chicken pasta for the BG, jambalaya pasta for Mr. Young and chicken and shrimp gumbo for our first year. Needless to say everything was awesome and the portions were huge. Gotta love America...no wonder we have an obesity problem but its sooooo delicious. Saw the biggest piece of cheesecake ever on the way but none of us could even think of getting some. All in all a great dinner."

The Real "American Pie"

All the way from Baxter, MN, Matt Scalo, the older brother to Serious Meat and myself, brings us a nice beef tip dinner that he really seemed to have enjoyed. I feel that this post should be read while listening to some soft romantic melodies while holding hands with a loved one. Matt enjoyed this so much he said he would rather wake up next to the apple pie than his wife...so Matt, was Stiffler and the boys right in American Pie when they said "It feels like warm apple pie"?

"Tucked away in the northern pines at the historic Grand View Lodge in Minnesota we came across these gems...
Filet beef tips with red wine mushroom sauce, rice pilaf and broccoli.
Followed by crisp apples nestled in a cinnamon and sugar crumb blanket, sweetly kissing home made whipped cream and vanilla ice cream.
The Blackberry photos don't do these two justice. Trust me when I say given the choice of waking up next to these two or Bri, well, here is a blanket babe and there is the couch."
