Egg sandwiches? Ova Hea!

Serious Meat jumped the gun with this post, so I am doing a quick edit to do a little introduction since I created this work of art.

On Sunday morning, like most weekend mornings when I am at my parents house, I like to cook breakfast for my brothers and parents, with standard usually being egg sandwiches. While rummaging through the fridge I noticed we had some Taylor Ham (Pork Roll), eggs, YELLOW American cheese, and this breakfast bread that I never heard of. For those of you who don't know what Taylor Ham is, I suggest you try it ASAP. It is very common in New Jersey, and I haven't seen it offered anywhere in CT yet. This bread is made by Thomas, and is basically a giant corn muffin loaf sliced like a loaf of bread.

Now for the cooking process. While at grad school at JMU I lived with 4 girls that enjoyed my cooking. I cooked, they cleaned. They were big fans of eggs, so they decided to get me a griddle (Thanks Cara, Cathryn, and Marisa). Let me tell you, it was one of the best gifts ever. Just like Taylor Ham, a griddle is a must have for everybody.

I will let Serious Meat discuss how much he enjoyed this sandwich, because watching him enjoy this masterpiece was rewarding as the cook. Its a good thing he at this sitting down and remained seated for a few minutes after he was done.

"HEAR YEE, HEAR YEE. I would like to introduce the breakfast sandwich that caused Lunch Pail's to drop his phone in a bucket of water (and by caused I mean he made (but I ate) this delectable layered masterpiece and needed to wash up). Don't be fooled people, this is not your everyday egg sandwich, no sir…nor is it your everyday bread, no way...no way!

What we have he is a Taylor Ham, Duel Egg, and Cheese on CORN MUFFIN bread. Topped with a little bit of ketchup, a dash of salt, and a healthy dose of crushed black peppa.

The layering technique that was used during its construction was impeccable. The whole is the sum of its parts. Well let me tell you, that's no joke. Each individual item contributed to the phenomenal flavor expressed via breakfast sandwich.

I tell ya, you'd be pressed to find an egg sandwich better than this. True story. "

Thank you,

Serious Meat
Note the nice toast of the breakfast bread and the loose, but not too runny yolk...

  2. If you like pork roll then try scrapple. Can't beat a scrapple, egg, and cheese on an english muffin with hot sauce.
